The late Randy Pausch once said:
You can't get there alone
when talking about pursuing goals. I was reminded of this while reading an article about the 8 types of friends needed in life.
One friend may not excel in every aspect. Funny as it may sound, people specialize even in being friends. A good listener may not always have time, and a loyalist may not help you sort out the chaos in your life. Different types of friends seem to be needed for various problems and challenges.
And so, we have 8 types of them:
Builder: motivates you and encourages your growth. Helps you discover and leverage your strengths.
Companion: always by your side, no matter the circumstances. You share a strong bond with them and can trust them.
Connector: helps you make new connections and provides access to valuable resources. They know many interesting people and are eager to introduce you to them.
Mind Opener: broadens your horizons and encourages you to embrace new ideas, opportunities, cultures, and people. They ask you thought-provoking questions and help you create positive changes.
Navigator: offers advice and helps you stay on the right path. You turn to them when you need assistance in making decisions. They help you see a positive future and keep your feet on the ground.
Champion: supports you and believes in your abilities. They take pride in your successes and praise you in front of others. They defend you when you're criticized or attacked.
Collaborator: shares similar interests and passions. You can share your hobbies, views, work, or entertainment with them. You have a lot in common, and it's easy to get along.
Energizer: always lifts your spirits and gives you a boost of energy. They can make you laugh, comfort you, and motivate you. They are enthusiastic and optimistic.
I highly recommend taking a look at your friends, not to check how many Facebook friends are genuine or to thin out your existing ones, but rather to determine the kind of friends you don't have but need to achieve your goals.
I recommend it.
