I was automating a process…
Some time ago, I mentioned that I was simultaneously working on a new newsletter. Nothing major, just something that would help me stay up to date with the Godot Engine, gather some learning materials, and maybe bring in some potential profits! (I'm still waiting on that last part)
Of course, such an endeavor required a system. Using IFTTT and Todoist, I created a system for saving social media posts, YouTube videos, etc., which I then review in my task list because you know me well, and you know everything is a task list for me. The curation is still manual, but this way it’s way easier!
What did I notice?
Treating each tweet as a task in Todoist allows me to read it slowly and with full focus. Why? I guess I treat it as a task, and Todoist doesn't force me to scroll endlessly or inundate me with algorithms, trends, or anything else. At most, I have to open Twitter if a post contains some images.
When I return to Twitter, not only am I "encouraged" to scroll through the feed, but I often do it quickly, and each time, I reach a point where I wonder if I've already seen this post the last time, scrolled past it, or if it's actually new. Automatic hiding of already read posts would be risky, but conscious marking?
What do the social media companies think about this?
Does it sound like a business idea? Probably, but certainly not a pretext to create a new social network. If only I knew how I would create a browser extension that changes the site's design. But you get it. Priorities 😉
