For some reason, platformer is the genre of choice when learning game engines, forcing noobs into the dreaded territory of programming game physics.
They have a point, though. If you want to create a jumpstart tutorial, you must cover physics.
But then, a lot of newbies want to create platformers.
Frankly, I do think that there are easier games to start with. Like a shmup, or a Pong-clone.
But if there's one point I'd like to make: if you are terrified by implementing game physics... then don't!
Find games that do not require implementing game psychics.
Long story short: Don't make Mario! Make Zelda!
I’m learning to make games with Raylib right now, and one of my most common activities is to move something for later.
3D? Later!
Audio? Later!
Physics? Wait for it… Later!
There will be a time to become a generalist. That shouldn’t be at the very beginning 😉
Apologies for a brief edition today, I’m fighting for my life, as I have the flu. 39 degrees Celsius, Near Death Experience, I’m telling you 😉
